Celebrate!

When I weighed myself this morning, I'd lost 3 1/2 pounds over the last week. Woo-hoo!

I mean, I know the first week always has a higher-than-usual loss, but still. That feels pretty good.

I also made it back to a Weight Watchers meeting last night. My usual meeting has a new leader, and she seems good. She very friendly, and very enthusiastic, so the meeting was fun. I going to have to make a habit of going weekly, I know.

I think I may try the new "flex points" journalling, and see how it goes. I'm going to have to start journalling on paper for weekends that I'm in Cambridge, anyway (like this weekend). In that case, I'll probably just point the totals for the days when I get back.

The perils of gaining weight

So, I went to my doctor earlier this week for my regular checkup.

I've put on 30 pounds in the last year, which she really wasn't happy about. I'm still waaaay below my starting weight, of course, but starting the gain/loss see-saw with a 30 pound swing? Not good.

To top it off - one of the unexpected side effects (for me, anyway) to the gain is that I'm now have a cholesterol problem. As in, it's too high. No dangerously so, yet, but certainly outside the "acceptable" range.

So, I have to start doing this seriously, again. What I don't get is why the 30 lbs I have to lose this time seems more daunting than the 110 I lost in the first place? Maybe because the last time I wasn't really expecting it to work, in the beginning, and was surprised by the fact that I could lose at all. This time, I know it can work, and I know that if I stick with it, it will work, but I have a better appreciation for the amount of work involved. For instance, I know it'll take me 6 months - once I'm past the first week of weight loss, it's a steady 5 lbs a month.

One good thing out of the visit (sort of) - I'm not actually anemic, for once (yay spinach!). I just get out of breath climbing two flights of stairs because of the weight I have on. I have to get back to the gym...

Once more, with feeling

So, I'm going back on the weight-watching train. I really didn't like not being able to do up the pants I tried to do up this morning. Besides which, I was hugely jealous of mycrazyhair's corset purchase on the weekend, but I refuse to buy a $300 garment while 30 pounds overweight.

So, I'm trying again. I know I can do this - I've done it before, after all. It's simply a matter of getting back in the habit of not constantly snacking, and sticking to it. I have my reasons (excuses?) for why I stopped following the program a year ago, but they don't apply anymore. I'm tired of looking in a mirror and feeling bad about what I see, again.

This time it's gonna stick. If I'm in town on Thursday night, I'll even go to a meeting. Thursday night meetings are going to become part of my life again.

Down a couple of pounds!

Well, I had my first weigh-in tonight, and I was down a couple of pounds from where I was last week when I started. Yay!

I managed to last the week, and I wasn't seriously over points at any time, some it's been a successful week.

Unfortunately, I'm going camping this weekend, and most of my choices are going to have to do with portion control rather than food choice, which sucks. I'm bringing along some fruit, so I can snack on that rather than chips and such, but still. Not to mention the alcohol...
